Inflexiones temporales es un proyecto e instalación audiovisual que surge a raíz de la residencia artística de Caribbean Linked en Oranjestad, Aruba con la que inicio un proceso de documentación de la atmósfera a través de fotografías tomadas desde Bayamón, Puerto Rico, lugar donde resido y permanezco la mayor parte del tiempo. El proyecto persiguió salvaguardar una memoria visual de cómo observo la atmósfera a distintas horas del día por los meses que conformaron la temporada de huracanes en Puerto Rico durante el año 2021, que transcurrió desde el 1 de junio hasta el 30 noviembre de este año.
A lo largo de la historia, la temporada de huracanes nos ha mantenido a la expectativa de cualquier cambio o desarrollo de sistemas climatológicos. Hay un desasosiego colectivo por el estrés postraumático de huracanes recientes y por la necesidad de predicción de lo que pudiera pasar en el futuro por motivos de seguridad y bienestar general.
En Inflexiones temporales, me aparto de los sistemas de rastreos oficiales y me devuelvo a la experiencia de la observación inmediata y a la recepción del mundo natural. Utilizo el lenguaje, la memoria, la imagen y el vídeo para imaginar los estados del tiempo basados en cientos de documentaciones de la atmósfera recopiladas durante meses. Con ello, proyecto recordar lo aleatorio, las coincidencias, lo cíclico, constante, impredecible y a la vez predecible, cambiante y desafiante del tiempo, particularmente basado en mi experiencia en Puerto Rico.
Para lograrlo, me fundamento en la forma de un cubo, aludiendo al dado de los juegos de azar, donde cada cara posee una imagen de un estado del tiempo y aplico términos utilizados en la prensa para describirlos: soleado, nublado, parcialmente nublado, semisoleado, chubascos, entre otros. Juego con los dados al aire sobre espejos que reflejan el cielo actual y capturo su relación a través de fotografías como metáfora climática de la incertidumbre y la contradicción.

Temporal Inflections is a project and audiovisual installation that arises from the Caribbean Linked artistic residency in Oranjestad, Aruba, with which I begin a process of documenting the atmosphere through photographs taken from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, where I reside and stay most of the time. The project sought to preserve a visual record of my observations of the atmosphere at different times of the day throughout the months that comprised Puerto Rico’s 2021 hurricane season, which extended from June 1 to November 30 of that year.
Throughout history, the hurricane season has kept us in expectation of any change or development of weather systems. There is a collective uneasiness from the post-traumatic stress of recent hurricanes and the need for predictability of what might happen in the future for safety and general welfare.
In Temporal Inflections, I step away from official tracking systems and return to the experience of immediate observation and the reception of the natural world. I use language, memory, photography, and video to imagine weather conditions based on hundreds of atmospheric observations documented over the course of several months. Through this process, I seek to recall the random, the coincidental, the cyclical, the constant, the unpredictable yet predictable, and the ever-changing and challenging nature of weather, particularly as experienced in Puerto Rico.
To achieve this, I draw upon the form of a cube, referencing a die used in games of chance. Each face bears an image representing a different weather condition, accompanied by terms commonly used in the media to describe them: sunny, cloudy, partly cloudy, mostly sunny, rain showers, among others. I toss the dice into the air above mirrors that reflect the current sky and photograph their interaction as a climatic metaphor for uncertainty and contradiction.
